Have you ever been hurt? Has someone wronged you? Maybe someone you looked up to let you down, or a person you trusted took advantage of you? Of course. We have all been there.
Our natural tendency is to try and even the score. To hurt them back in some way for what they have dared to do to us. However, we will live very lonely lives unless we learn to forgive.
A marriage filled with unforgiveness won’t last long.
A friendship filled with unforgiveness is soon ended.
A job filled with unforgiveness will not be ours very long.
Unforgiveness is destructive. It is a poison that destroys its container. It will rob you of your peace and joy, disrupt your life and hinder your walk with God.
While it may be true that the offending party does not “deserve” our forgiveness, the basis for forgiveness is not about them or us. It is about the fact that we have been forgiven because of Christ and should offer forgiveness in turn to others.
Forgiving like God forgives means to forgive instantly, repeatedly and completely.
To forgive the past, present, and have a readiness to forgive in the future.
Psalm 86:5 – “For thou, Lord, art good, and ready to forgive.”
When we choose to forgive, our entire outlook will change. Our forgiveness and willingness to let go will grant great peace.
