The Syrian army made the mistake of thinking that Israel had prevailed against them previously because they had the high ground.
A valley is a low place. Often the imagery of the valley is used to describe low areas in our lives. Difficult times. Dark times. Scary times.
All of us go through valleys. There are some who teach and would have you believe that if God is with you, then you will only know victory and blessings. That the proof of God’s presence and power is found only on the mountain top. They are saying the same things the Syrians said!
For this reason, when we find ourselves in a valley, it is easy to begin to believe that maybe God is not with us. Maybe he has forsaken us, or worse, doesn’t care as much as we once thought. We begin to question “Where is God? Why is all this happening?”
But God is God whether our finances are up or down, whether we are healthy or sick, in good times and bad. In sunshine and in rain, in pleasure and pain, in smiles and in tears, God IS STILL GOD!
It was in the “valley of the shadow of death” that David said “I will fear no evil, for thou art with me.”
It was in a valley of Elijah’s life that he received refreshing and heard the still small voice of God proclaim that he was not done yet.
It was in a valley of Paul and Silas’ lives when at midnight in prison, they sang and praised God.
You are not alone in the valley. God is still God. He loves you and is working even now for your sake. Trust in Him and don’t give up.
There are few things more magical than dreaming of exchanging vows amidst the breathtaking scenery…
