God’s people have suffered as slaves in Egypt for 400 years, praying and waiting for a deliverer. God has prepared a man, Moses, to be that deliverer, but Moses has trouble accepting this call of God upon his life.
If you continue to read, you find that he begins to make many excuses, all for which God has an answer. But one thing Moses asked God does not answer. ‘Who Am I?’ Moses’ focus was on his own knowledge, ability and resources, all of which had failed him in his previous attempt to be a deliverer. In Exodus 2:12 the only thing he could manage was to kill one Egyptian.
Each of us is here for a purpose and all that God causes or allows is meant to aid us, but how often are we trying to face the things that come to us in our own knowledge, ability, and resources? Moses was focused on himself and what He could do. But God never answers him! Instead, God draws Moses’ attention to the source of all things Moses will need to do the job himself!
What matters is not who we are, but who God is. We are limited but He is not, and He always places His power, protection, and provision behind His commands. We read Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me” and we focus on the “I can do” but it is the “through Christ” that matters!
Read John 15. In verse 5 Jesus sums up our ability without Him saying “for without me ye can do nothing.” It is God that works in us both to will and to do his good pleasure.
He is the one that can, He is the great I AM! All we have to do is allow Him to work through us, yielding ourselves to Him, and have peace and joy that He is able.
