“Honesty” is ed as being free from deceit or untruthfulness, being sincere. The Christian life should be one ed with integrity and honesty, yet because we all sin and find it easy to do so, honesty is something that we all need to work at.
The Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous teaches that the path to recovery is one of “rigorous honesty” and that when we notice that we have been false, that we immediately try to correct the dishonest behavior or statements and that “Willingness, honesty and open mindedness are the essentials of recovery.” (P.568)
Jesus came to teach us a better way of life. His Holy Bible teaches us: “Do your best to present yourself as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.” (2nd Timothy 2:15); “The Lord detests lying lips, but He delights in people who are trustworthy” and that “to do what is right and just is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice.” (Proverbs 12:22 and 21:3); and (one of my all-time favorites) “Stop lying to each other; tell the truth, for we are all parts of each other and when we lie to each other we are hurting ourselves.” (Ephesians 4:25)
When we are honest with each other, it shows our love and respect, and allows us to make the best decisions that we can, based on facts — we learn to depend on one another, to believe in one another and we become a closer family when we tell the truth to each other. If you find that you have been dishonest, I encourage you to make it right — your relationships will be better, you will be safer and your whole life will be more in sync with this Universe, made by our Creator.
We are J-Bar — we are blessed beyond measure. We love — we are thankful beyond measure. We serve, and in so doing become the leaders that God wants us to be.
