As we go through life, God gives us those various seasons or stages of life to get the most out of and enjoy. Stages like our own childhood, our school years, our young family years, middle age and senior years, all having difficulties and hardships but also happiness and joy.
The mistake we make too often is being in a hurry to leave one stage and enter another. For instance, when we were little, we couldn’t wait to grow up and be like the high school kids. When we got there, we couldn’t wait to be adults out of school. As young adults with children, we often longed for a time when those little ones would be less work and better able to care for themselves.
Speaking personally, I always wanted to be a grandpa. Now that I am, I wish time would stand still, or at least slow down. Time is a precious commodity, once spent it cannot be regained.
While we may feel at times that our current season is not ideal and we would love nothing more than for it to be over, remember there are good things in that season as well. Things to learn, experience, and appreciate.
Life is a race, but it is meant to be a marathon, not a sprint. Look for the joy in every season. Make the most of the time we are in now. Live each season in such a way that we need never look back with regret.
There are few things more magical than dreaming of exchanging vows amidst the breathtaking scenery…
