Today Is A Gift

Listen to this week’s devotional on The J Bar Experience Podcast!

Proverbs 27:1 – “Boast not thyself of the morrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.”

Many days we spend ready to be done. Most of these are called Mondays, but there are other times too that we face whatever it is we face, the trying circumstances of life, our jobs, whatever it may be, and we are just ready to be over with it. I am ready to be done and get to tomorrow.

Some days we dread what’s coming, and yet other days we look forward with anticipation because we know that tomorrow is supposed to be awesome.

I am thinking about when we were little, Christmas Eve was the worst! I want this to be over. I want to get to tomorrow. Because tomorrow is going to be awesome; today is just another day.

There is an old saying: “the days are long, but the years fly by.”

The truth of the matter is this: days, weeks, months, years, doesn’t matter. It all flies by.

And while we may spend much of our time done with today and ready to get to tomorrow, or dreading tomorrow, or excited about tomorrow, there is going to come a day when the only thing that matters to us is to have the day that we have today.

The Bible tells us to redeem the time, and make the most of today. Because whatever you may be facing today, dreading about tomorrow or looking forward to in anticipation, none of us are promised another tomorrow.

And when all of our today’s have ended, the only thing that matters to us is that we are going to wish we had one more day. Just a little bit more time to be able to live, to love, to accomplish, and to do what it is that God has placed us here to do.

I want to quote a famous and very wise philosopher and Kung Fu master, Master Oogway from Kung Fu Panda: “Yesterday is history; tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift; that is why it is called the present.”

I just wanted to come to you this morning and encourage you that no matter what you may be facing, or going through or looking forward to, or dreading coming, make the most of today. Be thankful for the time we have.

Today we have another opportunity to help one another, to serve one another, another opportunity to follow the Lord, another opportunity to love our friends and our family, that we may not get.

Today is a gift; cherish it.

Remember, we are J Bar. We are blessed beyond measure. We love, we are thankful beyond measure. We serve, and become the leaders God wants us to be.
