New Mercies

Listen to this week’s devotional on The J Bar Experience Podcast!

Lamentations 3:22 – “It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.”

We have another day. The alarm clock rings, and it’s time to make the donuts. Some of you will get that reference, and some of you won’t, and it’s fine.

But, some days we awake with enthusiasm and excitement. Some days, we dread the challenges that we know are coming. Whatever the day may hold – and truth be told we don’t know what the day may hold – we may have an idea, but nobody can tell the future. Whatever we think the day may hold, I’m going to give you a couple of reminders to help you.

As we wake every morning one of the things we need to remember is the Lord sustained us through the night. Do you ever think about this? You were asleep all night. The world turned, everything happened, anything happened, you don’t know what happened! But, if you woke up another day, it is because God got you there. It’s because he kept you safe. It’s because he kept you breathing.

I am glad that breathing is something that God just lets us do. Because if I had to think about breathing, I would have died a long time ago. I would have forgotten to breathe a long time ago.

But God takes care of that – he gets us there. And, the Bible says that his mercies are new every day.

And so yesterday had its own set of challenges to overcome, problems to deal with, and we got through it by God’s mercy. We got through it by God’s grace. And sitting here, we may have no idea what the day may hold

And this morning we are sitting here and none of us know what the day may hold. We have an idea, but one thing we do know is there are going to be fresh challenges. There are going to be new problems to overcome. That’s what we do: we overcome those problems. But that doesn’t mean it’s not difficult.

The thing about God is because God knows all of our tomorrows, he knew yesterday exactly what you and I were going to face today, and he already prepared a fresh batch of mercy, and grace, and power, and provision, and strength.

The Bible says in Deuteronomy: “As thy days, so shall thy strength be.” God has promised to give us the strength we need each day. Now, we sometimes don’t have the strength because we’re too worried, we’re too fearful, and we squander that, but God has each and every day given us the ability to face the day ahead. And not only to face it, but through his mercies, which are new every day; through his grace, which is new every day; through his strength, which is new every day; through his provision, which is new every day; to face those challenges. To overcome and to get victory in our lives.

Remember, we are J Bar. We are blessed beyond measure. We love, we are thankful beyond measure. We serve, and become the leaders God wants us to be.
