National Safety Month | Safety For Everyone at Your Family Event

June is National Safety Month, and at J Bar Enterprises, we’re committed to making safety a top priority for everyone, everywhere. As a leading portable sanitation company, we believe that safety starts with each of us at work and home, and extends to our communities. Each week we will introduce a safety procedure or a bit of knowledge about safety, and explain how it correlates with one of our core values.

We will cover processes and procedures we follow here at our facility, as well as global safety measures you can take to support those around you. Be sure to follow along with this journey and keep an eye out for blog posts, videos, and a podcast episode with our Safety & Training Steward, who has decades of experience in the field!

Family reunions are a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with loved ones, share stories, and create new memories. With different generations present, it’s important to consider safety measures to ensure everyone has a safe and enjoyable time.

At J Bar Enterprises, we’re committed to helping you make your family gathering both fun and safe with our range of services, including luxury restroom trailers, our Come and Take It portable toilet/shower combination trailers, and our standard plastic portable sanitary restrooms We want you to stay informed of important safety tips that may make a world of difference during your family getaway. Here are some essential safety tips for all ages:

Young children are often the most vulnerable at large gatherings. Keep an eye on them and ensure they are safe, especially around potential hazards.

  • Water Safety: If your reunion is near a pool, lake, or river, ensure children are supervised at all times. Use bright swimsuits to make them easily visible. Keep floatation devices handy and enforce swimming rules.
  • Preventing Accidents: Set up a safe play area away from cooking equipment, grills, and campfires. Teach children not to run near these areas to prevent burns or other injuries.
  • Restroom Safety: Use J Bar’s Come and Take It portable toilet/shower combination trailers to provide clean and secure restroom facilities. Always accompany young children to the restroom to ensure they are safe and don’t lock themselves inside.

Teens may feel more independent, but they still need guidance to stay safe during family gatherings.

  • Stay Hydrated: Encourage teens to drink plenty of water, especially if they’re active or the weather is hot. Fun fact: our luxury restroom trailers provide a comfortable place for teens to refresh and rehydrate during your trip, and we are happy to deliver them to your campsite if needed to ensure ultimate comfort!
  • Sun Protection: Ensure teens use sunscreen and wear hats and sunglasses. Remind them to take breaks in the shade to avoid heat exhaustion.
  • Stay Connected: Have a meeting point where everyone can gather if someone gets lost. Ensure teens have a way to contact adults in case of an emergency.

Adults often oversee the event, but they need to take care of themselves too.

  • Heat Exhaustion: Stay hydrated and take breaks in the shade. Set up cooling stations with fans or misters to provide some relief during the heat of the day.
  • First Aid: Keep a first aid kit readily available. Know basic first aid procedures and ensure someone at the event is trained in CPR.
  • Food Safety: Ensure that all food is stored properly to avoid spoilage. Keep hot foods hot and cold foods cold to prevent foodborne illnesses.

Seniors may have specific health concerns that require attention during a family reunion.

  • Heart Health: Ensure seniors have a comfortable place to sit and rest. Be aware of the signs of a heart attack, such as chest pain, shortness of breath, and discomfort in the upper body. Have emergency contact numbers and medications on hand.
  • Mobility: Provide accessible restroom facilities like our luxury restroom trailers, which offer a comfortable and secure environment. Ensure paths are clear and free of obstacles to prevent trips and falls.
  • Temperature Regulation: Seniors can be more susceptible to temperature extremes. Make sure they stay cool and hydrated, and provide blankets or jackets if the weather turns chilly.

  • Emergency Plan: Establish an emergency plan. Know the location of the nearest hospital or urgent care center. Have a list of emergency contacts for each family member.
  • Stay Informed: Keep a weather radio or app handy to stay informed about any severe weather warnings. Have a plan in place for sheltering if needed. Unfortunately, our sanitary restrooms are not the best option for shelter during a storm! If you find yourself in inclement weather, it is best to find a more sturdy covering to stay under with your family.
  • Respect Boundaries: Encourage everyone to respect each other’s space and boundaries. This helps prevent conflicts and ensures everyone feels comfortable and safe.

At J Bar Enterprises, we’re here to help make your family reunion as safe and enjoyable as possible. Our range of sanitary solutions, from luxury restroom trailers to our standard sanitary restrooms, are designed to meet the needs of every family member. By following these safety tips, you can ensure a memorable and secure gathering for all generations.

Savanna Gregg

My name is Savanna Gregg, and I have been blessed with the task of writing blog posts for J Bar! I’ve grown my love for writing since I was a kid, inspired by my grandpa and great-grandma, and encouraged by my family to follow this passion wherever it leads me. I found a love for journalism in high school and participated in UIL competitions throughout that time. I was able to expand that experience into a career, working for the Burnet Bulletin Newspaper for just over two years before finding a new opportunity here at J Bar. I’ve always loved spreading the news to my community through social media, and am so glad to have been given the opportunity to continue that while providing services for our customers at the same time. I hope you enjoy learning more about our company!
