Summer is a time for fun and adventure, especially for families. However, safety should always be a top priority, especially when it comes to our children. At J Bar Enterprises, our core value of Family drives us to ensure that both our services and our community remain safe environments for everyone. Here are some crucial safety tips to help protect your little ones during the summer months.

Water activities are a highlight of summer, but they come with their own set of safety concerns. Drownings typically occur silently with little to no warning the child is in trouble, and drowning cases in the US have increased in the last few years, according to recent reports. We want to ensure you and your family are not a part of those statistics and hope you read and share these vital tips to ensure your children stay safe around water this summer and in the future:

• Bright Swimsuits: Dress your kids in bright swimsuits. Colors like neon orange, yellow, or green are highly visible and can make it easier to spot a child who may go underwater.
• Constant Supervision: Never leave children unattended near water. Whether it’s a pool, lake, or beach, always keep a watchful eye on them.
• Swimming Lessons: Enroll your kids in swimming lessons. Knowing how to swim is a critical skill that can save lives.
• Life Jackets: Use life jackets for younger children or those who are not strong swimmers, especially when on boats or near deep water.
• Set Water Rules: Establish and enforce rules around water play, such as no running near the pool, no diving in shallow areas, and always swimming with a buddy.

Portable restrooms, like the sanitary restrooms provided by J Bar, are a common sight at outdoor events, construction sites, and recreational areas. While they are convenient, it’s important to supervise children around these units to prevent accidents.

• Prevent Drowning: Ensure that kids and toddlers do not play around portable restrooms. The tanks can be hazardous, and it’s essential to prevent any risk of drowning. Little’s can be top heavy and their curiosity could result in a head first fall into the tank.
• Avoid Getting Locked Inside: Teach your children how to use the door lock properly. If possible, accompany younger children to the restroom to ensure they don’t accidentally lock themselves inside. Just like vehicles, portable restrooms can get extremely hot in the summertime.
• Safety Orange: Our sanitary restrooms are hard to miss with their bright safety orange color, easily visible and contributing to an overall safe environment. This visibility helps both adults and children locate the units quickly in case of an emergency.

During summer cleanout projects or other residential tasks that require trash removal, you might have rental equipment like roll-off dumpsters at home. While these are incredibly useful, they can pose significant dangers to children.

• Supervision is Key: Always supervise children around roll-off dumpsters. They can be attracted to these large objects but may not understand the risks.
• No Climbing: Kids should never climb into dumpsters. You don’t know what might have been disposed of; there could be sharp objects, chemicals, or other hazardous materials inside, or even wildlife looking for shelter.

Educate on Dangers: Explain to your kids why dumpsters are dangerous. Make sure they understand that dumpsters are not play areas and that entering them is unsafe.

• Hydration and Sun Protection: Ensure your children stay hydrated and wear sunscreen. Protect them from the sun with hats and sunglasses.
• Emergency Preparedness: Teach your kids basic safety skills like how to dial 911 in an emergency. Ensure they know your address. You can even teach them how to use the quick access to 911 feature on your mobile device. It differs from brand to brand and even model to model so be sure you teach the one that works for your phone.
• First Aid Knowledge: Keep a first-aid kit handy and know basic first-aid procedures. This can be invaluable in case of minor injuries or accidents.
